Enjoy the gems of Béziers while you stay at the In Situ Hotel.
THE SAINT NAZAIRE CATHEDRAL
Built in the Romanic era on the location of a temple dedicated to the Roman era on the site of Emperor Augustus, the Saint-Nazaire Cathedral was destroyed by the Crusaders fighting against the Cathars in 1209, before being rebuilt in a Gothic Mediterranean style. It overlooks the Orb river, and offers a majestic view over the Mediterranean Sea, Pyrenees, vineyards and the Massif Central’s foothills. The convent, dating back to the XIVth century, is unfinished. It gives access to the garden of the Bishops.

THE 9 FONSERANES LOCKS
This is the masterpiece of the Canal du Midi. It is comprised of eight basins and nine gates, which bridge a height difference of 21,50m over a length of more than 300 m. The majesty of the place and the technical achievement it represented at the time of its construction impress even today’s visitors. Historical buildings and relics such as the horse-drawn barge, the stables, and the house of the lock keeper remain are still here … The locks of Fonseranes is the 3rd most visited site in Languedoc-Roussillon and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

THE THAU LAGOON
The Etang de Thau (in Occitan: Estanh de Taur) is the biggest lagoon in Languedoc-Roussillon. It is spread over 7 500 hectares and is five meters-deep on average (the deepest point being the Vise Hot Water Spring wich reaches a depth of 32 meters and feeds the nearby spa town of Balaruc les Bains). Its size and depth, which set it apart from the other lagoons of the region, are explained by the geomorphology of the site; it is the syncline originating at Mount Gardiole to the north-east. It is linked to the Mediterranean Sea by channels at Marseillan (Pisse Saumes) and in Sète.
